Garden hoses are typically 1/2", 5/8" or 3/4" I.D. While this isn't as restrictive as a 5/16" hose would be, you'll clearly notice the reduced volume in those conditions where you need full flow, such as when connected to a large-capacity lawn sprinker. If you never need full-flow, this is a non-issue. - The plastic tightening ring is the weak link in this product. It will eventually fail if you "over-tighten" or it's cross-threaded (threads mis-align) with a brass female hose end. The valves are in daily use. I have them permanently attached to hoses and I leave the hoses under pressure.I removed the plastic torque multipliers that covered the brass female connector. It looks to me to be for people with weaker hand strength (that'll be me someday but not today). People that break these didn't need them and are probably over tightening the connection. My valves work perfectly without them. I used to use all plastic valves because they are cheap but they have poor impact resistance compared to brass. Hopefully these will outlast me. I noticed right away that I was not getting the coverage from the sprinkle like I did before I installed the shutoff valve. I promptly removed the valve and my original coverage returned. I now use this shutoff valve on the deck hose where I water hanging baskets and house plants where the pressure drop does not affect my watering. |
