There is not much to break or go wrong here in this simple piece of technology, so any minor differences from different manufactuers should have little effect over the years of use...prices do vary, however, and I can only assume, more than quality and functionality. Its outlet is on the bottom, pointing straight down, so it is always a struggle to reach down into the well and get a hose connected to it. When we do get a hose on, it invariably kinks since the hose must turn approximately 160 degrees to exit the window well. We got this hoping to solve that problem, but the spring is so stiff that the hose merely kinks at the end of the Hose Protector--all it does is move the kink location 8 inches out. We finally solved the problem with a brass right-angle elbow ( Camco 22505 90 Degrees Hose Elbow with Gripper) on the bib to reorient the hose connection to the front.This Hose Protector works well in situations where the hose bib is at least 18 inches or more off the ground, so the hose can follow a graceful arc to the hose bib, but in... The spring, however, appears to be OK, and the hose plastic is the kind with embedded fibers.Overall opinion: Not impressed, as I have had bad luck with these kind of hose fittings before. Will update the review at a later date, as only time will tell if this item has any durability. October 2010: So far, so good..... |
