This review is from: Dramm 13001 Premium Garden Gard Hose Spike - Green (Lawn & Patio) We have a large 100' hose real attached to the house with a perpendicular movement (the hose unreels perpendicularly to the house rather than parallel to the house). Whenever we unrolled the hose, we met a lot of resistance if we were moving down along the house (almost always) once we got about 10' or so away from the reel (because the use started coming off sideways from the reel). We put this spike in the ground about 5 feet from the reel (straight out) and when we're unreeling the hose (either to the left or right) we just start it going around the spike and then we have fairly effortless unreeling without any sideways pulling on the reel itself. The top of the spike pops out so that you can put it away when not in use without having to re-spike it each time you want to use it. A nice design feature that we don't tend to make use of (we just leave the top in since it is in one of our mulch beds rather than in the lawn). They are large and sturdy and easy to install. If you choose not to keep the top portion in place when not in use it is removeable--nothing showing above ground.
